JD Sheffield’s 10 votes in support of late-term abortion

Liberal Republican J.D. Sheffield audaciously calls himself Pro-Life to buy votes, but he cannot hide from his anti-Life record.  Throughout his entrenched eight-year tenure in Austin, he has publicly supported late-term abortion 10 SEPARATE TIMES.

See below the 10 times Sheffield supported late-term abortions.

  1. Record Vote #32, Amendment 2, SB 5 (1st Special Session), 2013.
    • Amendment by Senfronia Thompson (D) to weaken the prohibition on abortions after 20 weeks, allowing loopholes.
    • Sheffield voted to keep the Democrat’s pro-abortion amendment, giving his support for late-term abortion.
  2. Record Vote #1, Amendment 1, HB 2 (2nd Special Session), 2013.
    • Amendment by Senfronia Thompson (D) to again add loopholes to the prohibition on abortions after 20 weeks.
    • Sheffield voted with Democrats to weaken the Pro-Life bill, giving his support for late-term abortion.
  3. Record Vote #4, Amendment 2, HB 2 (2nd Special Session), 2013.
    • Amendment by Sarah Davis (the only openly pro-abortion Republican in the Texas House) to add loopholes to the prohibition on abortions after 20 weeks at the discretion of the abortionist.
    • Sheffield voted to keep the pro-abortion amendment, giving his support for late-term abortion.
  4. Record Vote #7, Amendment 7, HB 2 (2nd Special Session), 2013.
    • Amendment by Rafael Anchia (D) to allow late-term abortions at the discretion of abortionists.
    • Sheffield voted with Democrats to keep the pro-abortion amendment, giving his support for late-term abortion.
  5. Record Vote #11, Amendment 11, HB 2 (2nd Special Session), 2013.
    • Amendment by José Menéndez (D) to add vague loopholes to the prohibition on abortions after 20 weeks.
    • Sheffield voted with Democrats to weaken the Pro-Life bill, giving his support for late-term abortion.
  6. Record Vote #12, Amendment 12, HB 2 (2nd Special Session), 2013.
    • Amendment by Ruth McClendon (D) to weaken the prohibition on abortions after 20 weeks for minors.
    • Sheffield voted to keep the pro-abortion amendment, giving his support for late-term abortion.
  7. Record Vote #371, Amendment 18, HB 2510, 2015.
    • Amendment by Matt Schaefer (R) to close an anti-Life loophole in Texas law that allows abortions after 20 weeks.
    • Sheffield voted with Democrats to kill the Pro-Life amendment, giving his support for late-term abortion.
  8. Record Vote #372, Amendment 18, HB 2510, 2015.
    • Amendment by Matt Schaefer (R) to close an anti-Life loophole in Texas law that allows abortions after 20 weeks.
    • Sheffield voted with Democrats to kill the Pro-Life amendment, giving his support for late-term abortion.
  9. Sheffield publicly spoke against Pro-Life Amendment 18 to HB 2510 in the Regular Session of the 84th Texas Legislature in 2015.
    • In his speech, Sheffield claims that abortion may be the best way for children with disabilities to be “dealt with,” and he acknowledges his belief in the “right to choose.”
  10. Record Vote #1391, Amendment 22, SB 8, 2017.
    • Amendment by Matt Schaefer (R) to close an anti-Life loophole in Texas law that allows abortions after 20 weeks.  This amendment was identical to the Schaefer amendment to HB 2510 in 2015.
    • Sheffield had an unexcused absence for the vote on this Pro-Life amendment despite being on the House floor at the time the vote took place.

All of this information can be verified on the official website of the Texas Legislature.  The record is clear: J.D. Sheffield is NOT Pro-Life.  On abortion, he is just another Democrat vote.  Remember this when you cast your ballot in the Republican Party Primary Election on Tuesday, March 3.
