Texas Right to Life supports State Republican Executive Committee resolution to defund Planned Parenthood immediately

On December 5, the State Republican Executive Committee of the Republican Party of Texas voted on a resolution urging the United States Congress to halt all federal funds to Planned Parenthood in the current Omnibus Spending Bill. 

Houston, Texas- December 11, 2015: On December 5, the State Republican Executive Committee of the Republican Party of Texas passed a resolution urging the United States Congress to defund Planned Parenthood in the budget proposal currently being debated.  The resolution comes as the deadline for the passage of an omnibus budget bill fast approaches.  Congress is expected to consider a number of bills and resolutions through next week, but Speaker Paul Ryan is working to have some votes taken as soon as today. 

Texas Right to Life stands with the Republican Party of Texas charging the United States Congress to finally defund the Planned Parenthood abortion business.  Until now, Congress has taken several ceremonial show votes that have not actually defunded the abortion giant.  Through all possible avenues and spending bills, Congress must heed the will of the American people who do not want their tax dollars funding the nation’s largest perpetrator of the deaths of preborn children. 

Texas Right to Life supports defunding efforts at the state and federal level.  We charge our leaders to move forward with any and all defunding efforts.  Such efforts are not an attempt to remove healthcare from vulnerable women and children.  Rather, the defunding efforts acknowledge the Pro-Life concerns of the majority of Americans, redirecting women’s healthcare funding to comprehensive and life-affirming healthcare providers.  In no way, shape, or form should Planned Parenthood be allowed to remain in the taxpayer-funded budget of the United States.  America doesn’t need Planned Parenthood.  Texas doesn't need Planned Parenthood.  Planned Parenthood, which centers their business model around selling elective abortions to women, should not receive one red cent.
