Texas Right to Life supports Congressional investigation of Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion business

Texas Right to Life applauds the congressional probe that has been launched to investigate Planned Parenthood, America’s abortion mega-giant.  The investigation requires Planned Parenthood and its affiliates to produce numerous documents regarding all audits and federal monies, and the congressional committee will determine if the abortion provider is in compliance with federal guidelines that ban taxpayers’ dollars from funding abortion.

This investigation comes at a time when Planned Parenthood is attempting to recover from severe state and federal funding cuts—and Texas is one of many states that has successfully reduced the abortion giant's revenue.  Texas Right to Life led the legislative charge to remove $64.2 million from Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry in Texas—the largest removal of funds in the nation.  Texas Right to Life believes a congressional investigation into the entire organization will draw the nation’s attention to the funding shell game Planned Parenthood has played for years and will cause further elimination of public funds from the abortion giant.

Planned Parenthood routinely breaks laws and preys on women, and in particular, underage, vulnerable teens.  The controversial organization continues to extinguish the lives of 330,000 innocent children every year.  Elizabeth Graham, Director of Texas Right to Life, commented:  “Many people still erroneously believe that Planned Parenthood provides much-needed medical services.  However, their extensive involvement in and promotion of unmitigated abortion on demand by far overshadows any other services they may provide.”

Many pro-abortion groups claim that Planned Parenthood offers services other than abortion and that reducing federal grants to the organization will hurt women and actually cause more unplanned pregnancy, and thus, more abortions—which is yet unproven and just rhetoric.  Yet, these same abortion advocates painstakingly ignore the pain inflicted upon women by abortion as well as the lies routinely sold to women at Planned Parenthood abortion clinics.

To address the abuses Planned Parenthood has committed, U.S. Congressman Cliff Stearns (R-FL), Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Investigations, is spearheading the investigation into the abortion provider.  In a statement regarding the probe, Congressman Stearns astutely clarified, “Although Planned Parenthood is barred from using federal funds to perform abortions; these funds are fungible and allow the group to use funds from other sources ostensibly for abortions.”

Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry do not deserve one cent of taxpayer money, state or federal.  If Planned Parenthood were to stop killing the unborn, many of the remaining services offered could be beneficial to women, but Planned Parenthood’s entrenchment in the lucrative abortion industry sullies any so-called women’s health services offered at its facilities.  Women and teens do not need to be going to abortion clinics for health care.
